Limitations of categories, payees and accounts

Various versions of Microsoft Money have some limits on the number of accounts, number of payees etc. that you can use in the file. Microsoft Money 98 removed many limitations by using a new database, but some still remain.

Microsoft Money limitations:
  • Accounts: Unlimited
  • Payees: Unlimited
  • Characters in Payee field: Currently is 32.
  • Categories and Subcategories: Unlimited
  • Characters allowed in the Memo field: 256
  • Classifications and Sub-Classifications: Unlimited
  • Favorite Accounts: 9 in Money 98, 50 in Money 99, 48 in Money 2000, 45 in Money 2001 and later
  • Columns in Reports: 3000
  • Favorite Reports: 50 in Money 98, Money 99 and Money 2000, 100 in Money 2001 and later
  • When entering Transactions into the Account Register, the Amount field is limited to: 9 digits in Money 98, 14 digits in Money 99 and later
  • digits in Account Number: 25 in Money 98, 22 in Money 99 and later
  • Transactions per file: Unlimited
  • Investments per file: Unlimited
  • Investment Transactions per file: Unlimited
  • Investments Updateable through Online Quotes: 161
  • Investment price alerts available through Advisor FYI (Expert Assistant): 11
There are no filesize limitations of a Money file (see Article 179).
