msvcr71.dll error when starting Microsoft Money

If you see an error when starting Money indicating the msvcr71 DLL file, and Microsoft Money does not start, then you should try a number of things to fix this. The error may look like the one below:

Microsoft Money msvcr71.dll error message
  1. Firstly, if you've recently installed a program, either uninstall it or use System Restore to go back to a restore point, and then try to start Microsoft Money again.
  2. If that does not work, then try reinstalling Money again. You may need to fully uninstall it (Article 102) first, although try reinstalling it over the existing installation first.
This error is very similar to the mfc42.dll issue (Article 184).

The system restore facility can be found by clicking Start->Help and Support, and then selecting the Tools->System Restore option (this could be different depending on your system).
